As demand for electricity in Alberta is expected to increase significantly over the next 10 years, the Rimbey Substation did not have the capacity to handle the forecasted growth. The upgrade was required to ensure residents, businesses and industrial facilities in the area continue to have a reliable supply of electricity for years to come.
This project consisted of site expansion, concrete works, assembly and erection two 138 kV circuit breakers; two sets of 138 kV capacitive voltage transformers; two 138 kV motor operated disconnect switches; and two 25 kV switchgear buildings complete with protection & control and SCADA systems.
CANA High Voltage (CHV) was contracted to perform the construction and testing & commissioning for the substation upgrade. CHV performed civil, structural, electrical and protection & control works required to modify the AltaLink substation.
