The Lanfine Substation was part of an area transmission development called the Hanna Regional Transmission Development (HRTD). The need for transmission reinforcement was driven by the Hanna region’s projected load growth as well as the need to connect wind-powered generation forecasted for the region. The 260kV portion of the project consisted five circuit breakers, five sets of current transformers, four sets of capacitive voltage transformers, three motor operated and twelve manual operated disconnect switches. The 144kV portion of the project consisted of seven circuit breakers, seven sets of current transformers, six sets of capacitive voltage transformers, four motor operated and fifteen manual operated disconnect switches, two 30 MVAR capacitor banks and one 260/144/25kV 300MVA power transformer.
CANA High Voltage (CHV) was contracted to perform the construction and testing & commissioning for the substation upgrade. CHV performed the civil, structural, electrical and protection & control works required for the substation.
